Traditions

Over the holidays, I have tried to think about creating traditions with our family.   But as I think of creating new traditions, I am reminded of my past traditions.   In my home growing up, my Mom always had a basket of various painted eggs....ceramic, wooden, etc.   Last year, I mentioned to my Mom that if she didn't want the eggs anymore, that I would love to pass along that tradition.  Well, my Mom decided to pass them along last winter.  I am so happy that this year they took their place on my dining room table.  Alex and Aubrey enjoyed looking at them.  I just put them safely away last night and am already looking forward to putting them out again next year.

When I was in college, my Mom mailed me a care package that included this white tree with some Easter decorations on it.   This year, Marissa helped me decorate it and it took its place on the fireplace mantle.

A new tradition that we have started is making this bunny cake.  We made it the last two years and we made it once again.  This year, we made it from scratch.  Alex and Aubrey really enjoy mixing all the ingredients together for the cake.  After it was baked, Dave put the icing on and Alex and Aubrey helped with the coconut and the jelly beans.

The one memory that I already have of the bunny cake is from the first time I made the cake two years ago. It was sitting on the counter of our kitchen in our previous house. I thought I had seen Alex chewing on something moments earlier, but when I went to check his mouth, I didn't see anything. Then as I glanced at the cake, I realized a chunk had been taken out of the ear. It must have been Alex. Dave and I just looked at it and laughed.

May all these traditions continue and new ones evolve.
